Explora el tour: The Great Putumayo Journey: Amazon to Andes — 7 Days

Discover Putumayo in its fullest expression with this 7-day tour that takes you from the lush Amazon jungle to the peaks of the Colombian Andes. A one-of-a-kind journey operated by Rioselva Travel.

You\'ll begin in Puerto Asís, immersing yourself in Amazonian rural life through canoe rides, Amazonian fruit farms, and the Coca Museum. From there, you\'ll head to Villagarzón, where birdwatching, trails through the Andean-Amazonian corridor, and the breathtaking Mohano waterfall will leave you speechless.

In Puerto Limón, you\'ll experience the multicultural richness of Putumayo: a boat ride to sacred waterfalls, river tubing, Afro-Colombian cuisine with Doña Rafaela, and ancestral dances with indigenous grandmothers.

The adventure continues in Mocoa with a visit to the Fin del Mundo waterfall, a natural wonder of over 70 meters where the Andean and Amazonian ecosystems converge, with an optional canyoning experience for the more daring.

The cultural journey reaches its peak in Sibundoy, the heart of the Kamentsa people, where you\'ll explore the cabildo house and cultural museum, and enjoy an eco-sounds and meditation experience at the Casona Mama Señora. The following day, a harmonization session and individual consultation with an indigenous Taita will connect you with the ancestral wisdom of the territory.

The finale is magical: El Encano,  known as the Venice of Colombia,  with its La Cocha lagoon and Nariño regional cuisine, before your departure from Pasto airport.

Day 1: Finca La Fortuna

  • To start this tour, we recommend arriving in Puerto Asís early in the morning. You'll be welcomed warmly by our team, who will be ready to assist with your luggage as we welcome you to this magical destination.
  • We'll begin with an immersion into rural Amazonian life: a canoe ride and a hands-on class to prepare a traditional fiambre campesino. You'll explore Amazonian fruit crops, visit the Coca Museum, and hear the story of a family that left illicit farming behind for a legal, sustainable livelihood. You'll also have the opportunity to purchase locally transformed Amazonian products such as sweets and chocolates made from regional fruits.
  • Your accommodation will be in Puerto Asís, in a setting that blends natural beauty with comfort for a truly unique and relaxing stay.

Day 2: Adventure in the Amazon

  • We start the day with a birdwatching experience at a natural refuge. Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed with coffee and fresh fruit before the tour begins. Equipped with a bird guide and binoculars, you'll walk flat trails alongside an expert guide, spotting diverse bird species and primates, and learning about forest fungi and their role in the ecosystem. We'll reach the wetlands, where you'll discover their ecological significance. Afterward, enjoy breakfast or a snack and chat with the Muriel family about their commitment to territorial conservation.
  • We then head to the Donde se Oculta el Sol Nature Reserve — a biodiversity sanctuary in the Andean-Amazonian corridor — where we'll walk trails beneath lush canopy trees before taking a dip in the Mohano waterfall to recharge in its crystal-clear waters.
  • In the evening, we'll enjoy a delicious dinner followed by a night walk through the reserve in search of reptiles and amphibians.
  • Accommodation at a lodge within the nature reserve.
3

Day 3: Culture & Nature in Puerto Limón

  • After breakfast, we head to Puerto Limón — a village where Afro-Colombian, indigenous, and settler cultures converge. We kick off the adventure with a boat ride to two sacred waterfalls for a refreshing swim, then descend the river on tubes through a stunning jungle landscape. Back in the village, we'll enjoy a traditional Afro-Colombian lunch with Doña Rafaela and explore the town's colonial history. We close the day by connecting with indigenous culture alongside the grandmothers, sharing dances and ancestral traditions.
  • We'll return to the lodge in the nature reserve for a delicious dinner and a peaceful evening in the heart of the jungle.

Day 4: Fin del Mundo Waterfall

  • After breakfast, we head to the municipality of Mocoa to visit the Fin del Mundo waterfall — a natural treasure where the Andean and Amazonian ecosystems meet, creating awe-inspiring landscapes and captivating natural pools. We'll ascend through forest trails accompanied by primates and local birds, pausing to taste fresh sugarcane juice and learn the fascinating history of this place. We'll cross the Dantayaco River and reach a natural viewpoint to take in the majestic waterfall of over 70 meters, with an optional canyoning experience for the more adventurous. We finish by relaxing in crystal-clear pools before enjoying lunch inside a cave with a spectacular view, then begin our descent.

  • Upon arrival in Sibundoy, a local guide from the Kamentsa indigenous community will welcome us and lead us through a cultural immersion. We'll explore the indigenous cabildo house and cultural museum to learn about the history and traditions of the Kamentsa people, then finish the cultural tour at the Interculturality Park, where we'll admire hand-carved wooden masks and discover the symbolism each one holds for the indigenous community. We'll enjoy a delicious local lunch in the village.
